My sister and I have a blog called Big City Hippies…
Our mission? To help people in the city embrace hippie ideals. And no, it’s nnot about being able to walk around nekked and smoke pot…but you can get away with both of those in the right places if you must 😉
What does it mean to be a big city hippie? It means you commit to making decisions and actions based on the following values: Respect for mother nature, respect for your self and your family, and respect for future generations.
We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.
If we all commit together to make smart choices more often, we can make a huge difference in the long term. And, we need to commit to teaching each other how to be a #bigcityhippie, too.
This video sums up why humans need to start taking care of our mother earth, so the generations beyond us get to enjoy the awe inspiring lands she has created.
And, now that your feeling like, oh crap I need to step my Hippie Game UP, here are 8 easy ways to reduce your carbon foot print and make a positive impact on the world:
Invest in nice spice jars and containers and save money and packaging by Buying Bulk.
Bring Your Own Take Out Containers to pick up restaurant food (requires you waiting for them to make it – but you can scroll through the BCH blog while you wait!)
Up-Cycle what ever you can
Buy locally produced food and handmade, sustainable and eco friendly items as much as possible.
I love etsy for that.
Sign petitions on Avvazz.org and similar sites that help fight evil! This is the easiest thing to do and it’s totally free. Petitions do make a difference.
Show up at Rallies, email your MPs, be involved in your local community and know what is going on in politics and your hood so you can speak up when you notice shady policies or people who care more about greed then people, the planet and the future….ahem #StephenHarper #Monsanto #BigPharma #BigOil
Donate / Volunteer / Support and or Promote charities or organizations that protect forests and animals, plant trees, or do awesome community development projects like urban gardens.
Buy a really nice Glass Waterbottle. Buy a six pack and give them to all your friends…or keep em al!
I hope your inspired to become a Big City Hippie like my sister and I.
I’d love for you to join us on our Big City Hippies facebook page (and instagram @bigcityhippies) to find out when we post new content!
